Financial Independence Boulevard

Picture this:

You're on a vacation to Ibiza for shopping because you're on a mission to establish a wardrobe that rivals that of Toke Makinwa or if you're a super ambitious girl you're picturing a Serena Van Der Woodsen closet. Or maybe a mix. A little toke there, Serena there, Blair Waldorf there, and a splash of Cher from clueless.

Just to be clear the aforementioned names are all fictional characters from Gossip Girl and the Hollywood teen classic, Clueless. I recommend watching them btw👌

But let's not get distracted. We're talking about…yes, you guessed it right. The sweetness of financial independence. Oh, I'm not done with the daydream. Picture it. Close your eyes. A trip to Ibiza, or maybe Greece. And if you don't have grandiose fantasies then picture something as basic as being able to put your parents on a monthly allowance. The joy in their hearts when they call you to pray for you. The pride in their eyes when they talk about you.

Financial independence is the one thing that can give you a higher quality of life that supersedes what most people are fortunate enough to experience. It seamlessly brings a beautiful sense of peace that comes from true freedom, a pathway to excellence, and the autonomy to shape your existence into all you want it to be. All you believe that it can be. In this digital age, terms like ‘soft life,’ ‘pretty girl era,’ are constantly thrown around by all and sundry. But guess the actual folks who are living in the true reality of what those terminologies connote; yep, you guessed right. The girlies that hold financial independence in a gentle clasp.

The flip side of the coin is when you choose to stay dependent, you're inadvertently choosing a life of arduous complexities. You're either bending over, and giving in to the multiple disadvantages of power dynamics or enduring a ruthless, vicious cycle of unapologetic financial abuse. I once had a boyfriend who made weekly visits to his apartment mandatory, and compliance wasn't even up for discussion because of the money he was giving me. But hey, that's a drop in the ocean compared to a woman getting beaten up by her husband until she couldn't speak anymore, simply because he was the breadwinner. Yep, true story.

The most hazardous disadvantage of financial dependency is that it quietly deposits your life into the hands of another. And because humans are fickle, feeble minded beings, unleashing bouts of implacable cruelty when bequeathed with such power is inevitable. We are taught that food, clothing, and shelter are the top human needs. When a person is providing you with any of these basic needs, they automatically have power over you. It is a universal law. It's a natural manifestation. The only way to orchestrate a power shift, to put your life back into the safety of your own hands, is to choose independence.

I know that for ages, centuries, even eons, the ‘trophy wife’ concept was seen as a glamourous one. It was seen as something glorious to aspire to. To be a lady of leisure whilst the man who put you in that position goes out to toil, and to labour for you. A classic, modern example is Georgina Rodriguez - the partner of superstar footballer, Ronaldo. Let me make it clear that I don't inherently believe this is a bad thing. If you're fortunate enough to find a man who says he wants to make life comfortable for you, congratulations!

What is bad is throwing your energy, your aspirations, and your resources and talents into an unrealistic dream(because let's face it, how many of such men exist today?) It is easier to decide to be a rich woman and work towards it, than to ‘hook’ a rich man. In most cases, a rich man will most likely find you when you are building something for yourself. Not in a hungry, desperate, chase.

In a world of boundless opportunities, don't get left behind.

Choose financial freedom.

And start off by taking the high road to Financial Independence boulevard. I'll forever be rooting for you
